Bring the world
INTO YOUR SCHOOL

When you welcome an international high school exchange student into your school, you are not only fulfilling a young person's dream of studying English abroad, you are affording your own students the opportunity to see the world beyond their backyard. Bring diversity to your school, broaden your students' world view and prepare your classroom for a globally minded future.

Introduce
Something New

"EF’s students integrate really well into our school. Their standard of English is so excellent that they actually raise the academic standards in the classes in which they’re involved. They add an interesting dimension to our school—all of our local students consider themselves very lucky to have them amongst our cohort. Working with EF has been a great success and we look forward to enjoying continued success with their students.”

– Mary Lanigan, Deputy Principal at Thurles Presentation Secondary School

Something you can be proud of

Working with EF High School Exchange Year is something you can be proud of. From the time students apply to the programme to the time that they take their final exams at the end of the year, they are eager to improve their English, succeed in a challenging academic environment and fully immerse themselves in the communities in which they are placed.

High Standards

We hold our students to the highest standards of maturity, responsibility, academic achievement and English language comprehension. EF's application process includes academic transcripts, teacher recommendations and in-person interviews.

Preparation

Pre-departure meetings and exchange materials set students up for success. Once in Ireland, students are required to attend an orientation where they discover Irish culture, practice their English and learn skills that will serve them at school and with their host families.

Accountability

Students must maintain at least a C average throughout the school year and EF also has a strict attendance policy. EF Staff in your local office maintain frequent communication with their partner schools and students.

questions every new partner school has

EF Education First is the world's largest private educational institution. Founded in 1965, we offer a wide range of educational programmes, from language training and educational travel to academic degrees and cultural exchange. With more than 450 offices in 50 countries, and a mission to break down barriers in language, culture, and geography, EF has helped millions of people of all ages and nationalities become citizens of the world.

Our number one priority is that our students and the schools and families that we work with are having the best experience possible. Our students are thoroughly screened before being accepted to the program, and while on their years abroad, are held to high expectations of maturity and responsibility. Each region in Ireland is coordinated by one of our EF Regional Managers. Your EF Regional Manager will be there for you every step of the way; from the time you start working with us to when you say goodbye to your student at the end of the year.

When you welcome an exchange student into your school, you are affording your own students the opportunity to see the world beyond their backyard. It is an opportunity for your community to learn about a different culture and a new way of life while creating friendships that will continue for many years to come.

All our students go through a thorough vetting process before being accepted onto our programme. They are required to complete an English proficiency test and to provide their transcripts as a part of the application process. They are also interviewed in their home countries to make sure that they are a good fit for our program and are prepared to manage the workload in your school.

Sometimes it happens that a student is not adapting well to their new school environment. When this happens, we ask that you contact your EF Regional Manager straight away. The EF Regional Manager will work out a plan to ensure the specific student will succeed in their year.

We are always looking for great host families to join our EF family and we rely on our partner schools to recommend families within close proximity to the school. If you already have someone in mind, please let us know their name today.
